Prenatal Care
Origin Story is a one-midwife practice because I believe having continuity with the same provider for all of your prenatal visits allows trust and familiarity to develop, facilitating deeper and more individualized care.
This relationship of consistency becomes a through-line that gets carried into the labor and birth experience, and continues in the postpartum period.
From conception through the fourth trimester, so many complex changes occur, and important choices will be made that deserve thoughtful consideration. I am with you every step of the way.
During your pregnancy, I provide all standard testing, lab work, ultrasound orders and evidence-based information about all of your options.
Referrals are made when, to expand the community of care around the client is to best serve their needs, should situations arise that fall beyond the midwife’s scope of practice.
Visits are conducted monthly until 28 weeks, bi-weekly until 36 weeks, and then weekly until your baby is born.
My goal is to help you to meet your labor and birth feeling as strong, healthy and vital as possible, knowing your own resilience, and believing in yourself.
Long Appointment Times:
Having questions answered to your satisfaction and concerns carefully listened to and addressed is crucial for clear-eyed decision making and maintaining a sense of agency in your process. These are the cornerstones of a positive experience.
Appointment times are scheduled for at least an hour (longer for your initial prenatal appointment and first postpartum visit), so that you have ample opportunity to discuss whatever is on your mind. During these visits we also conduct clinical health assessments to track your baby’s growth and address the needs of your changing body.
Childbirth Education is integral to the prenatal care I provide. Additional classes are also offered for deeper dives into subject matter. Check out the Childbirth Classes page for more information. Informed choice is a hallmark of my approach.
Planning a Home Birth:
Receiving thorough, supportive prenatal care is key to having a healthy birth at home, and is what every pregnant person deserves. You can call or send a message to schedule a free, no-obligation consultation to explore your options in an individualized way.
When To Begin Care:
Many people find it helpful to have support during the earliest weeks, as they navigate the many sensations, questions, and concerns that commonly arise around this time. Your care can begin as soon as you know you are pregnant, but I welcome clients at any time during their childbearing year.
Home Visits:
Prenatal visits take place in your home for your convenience. Since this is where you plan to have your baby, it helps us to prepare best by getting familiar with each other in the space where that will happen. I value getting to know you and your family!
Co-Care:
Some clients seeing a physician and planning a hospital birth also choose to receive adjunct care with a midwife for the nourishing emotional, herbal, and nutritional support common to the midwifery model. Ask about co-care if this is something you’re interested in.
